The Truth About Working at Church Media Squad
Working at TheSquad is not like working at an average creative agency. The expectations, workload, and culture are different.
- It’s not about grinding out projects endlessly. We work smarter, not just harder—knowing when to go all-in on a creative project and when to prioritize efficiency to serve churches better.
- Non-designers work just as hard. The people building the systems and structures that allow creatives to thrive are just as essential as the designers and editors.
- Creativity is purposeful. If you need every project to be a passion project, this might not be the right place. Some projects require high creative energy, and others require fast, effective execution. We know the difference.
We Only Want A-Players – Are You One?
TheSquad is a team of A-players—and A-players want to work with other A-players. If you don’t thrive in a high-expectation, high-performance environment, you’ll feel out of place here.
An A-player is someone who:
✅ Gets it – Understands the mission, the work, and the expectations.
✅ Wants it – Shows initiative, takes ownership, and doesn’t need to be pushed.
✅ Has the capacity to do it – Can execute at a high level, consistently.
✅ Is humble, hungry, and smart – Confident but teachable, always improving, and emotionally intelligent.
✅ Sees their work as a responsibility, not just a task – If you don’t take pride in your work or see it as an extension of yourself, this isn’t the place for you.
At TheSquad, mediocrity doesn’t last long. A-players naturally push each other to improve—and if that kind of environment overwhelms, frustrates, or bores you, it’s probably not a great fit.
What Does a Tough Day Look Like at TheSquad?
-
Deadline-Driven Work
We serve churches with real-world deadlines. That means:
- A last-minute project might need to be turned around quickly.
- A member might change direction late, requiring fast adjustments.
- You’ll likely juggle multiple projects at once and need to stay organized under pressure.
-
Handling Creative Critique
- Your work will be reviewed and refined—sometimes heavily.
- You might love a design or video you made, but the member’s needs come first.
- If you take feedback personally or resist changes, this could be tough.
-
Navigating Remote Communication
- Slack is our office. If you struggle with written communication, you may feel lost.
- Meetings are minimal. If you rely on face-to-face time to get clarity, this may be frustrating.
- You have to be proactive about asking questions and getting the info you need.
